Why we explain how we evaluate
Anyone making recommendations must be able to explain what they are based on. That applies to restaurant critics, product testers β and to vyvo.
The vyvo Score appears on every club profile. We consider it self-evident that you should know how it is produced.
Three data tiers β not one
Every club in the vyvo database goes through the same three-tier process. No club is skipped. No club receives preferential treatment.
Tier 1: Verified facts
What does the official website state? What can be verified directly?
We collect over 120 structured data fields per club: pricing and pricing models, contract durations and cancellation terms, available class formats, facilities (pool, sauna, outdoor area, parking), and additional services such as childcare, physiotherapy, acupuncture, and nutritional counselling.
This data is sourced directly from the official club website or verified through direct contact. If information cannot be verified, the field is left empty. We do not estimate.
Tier 2: What members say
Official data shows what a club offers. Member input shows what it feels like to train there.
We synthesise reviews from verified Google ratings. We are not looking for individual opinions β we are looking for consistent patterns: Is cleanliness consistently praised or consistently criticised? Is reception friendly or indifferent? Is the club overcrowded at peak hours?
Member data is always labelled as such on the platform β kept separate from verified facts. What members say and what the club officially communicates are two different things. We treat them accordingly.
Tier 3: The vyvo Urteil
The first two tiers provide data. The third tier provides judgement.
The vyvo Urteil answers a single question: who is this club genuinely suitable for β and who is it not?
This assessment is produced manually and approved manually. It draws on the full picture from Tier 1 and Tier 2, supplemented by a city-wide comparative perspective: how does this club position itself relative to all other clubs in the same category and price range in that city?
A premium club is not compared to a boutique studio. Every club is measured against its own stated standards.
The vyvo Score β four criteria
The score (1β10) summarises the full picture. It is built from four equally weighted criteria:
Location & facilities
How accessible is the club? How high-quality and complete is the infrastructure β training equipment, spaces, additional services?
Price transparency
Are prices clearly communicated? Are contract terms fair and legible? Clubs that obscure pricing or bury conditions are evaluated accordingly.
Member satisfaction
What do members consistently say about their experience? This criterion is based exclusively on patterns β not on individual positive or negative outliers.
Club positioning
Does the club deliver on what it promises β for its target audience and price tier? A club that positions itself as premium but delivers mid-range is rated accordingly. The reverse applies equally.
For context: premium clubs typically achieve scores between 7 and 9, depending on what they actually deliver. A score below 6 signals relevant weaknesses in one or more criteria. A score of 10 is not awarded β no club is perfect.
What we do not do
We do not sell listings. No club pays to appear on vyvo or to receive a higher rating. vyvo has no commercial relationship with any listed club at this time and receives no compensation for listings, rankings, or recommendations.
We do not invent data. If information cannot be verified, the field is left empty or marked as unavailable.
We do not guarantee completeness. The Swiss fitness market is large and continuously evolving. We prioritise data quality over club quantity.
What this means for you
When you see a club on vyvo with a score of 8.2, you now know: that number is based on verified data, synthesised member input, and editorial assessment β weighted across four criteria, compared within the same category, approved manually.
No algorithm surfaced this club because it ran paid advertising. No ranking was sold.
That is the standard we hold ourselves to.
