I would say a fair price gym with huge rooms and well equipped. The classes are well appreciated (I never attend any but I know people who did), the one less star is due to the lack of cleanliness, I literally trained on a bike and got all dirty of grease and dust. It is the reason why I switched to another gym and It Is a shame. Regarding the stuff, one guy was hiper sympa and kind (the shaved head guy, no idea the name), but another one was so so, when I went to try the gym he said I could stay 1 hour but after 20 min he said to leave because he wanted to go home 😅, pity
I needed a place to workout in Lausanne while I was in town for work, and this was the only gym (out of 7 that I tried) that would give me a month membership, for which I am so grateful. This gym is for people who LOVE working out and Who love different ways to challenge their body. It literally has everything from TRX to Cross Fit, to traditional weight lifting, to balance boards, to kettlebells, to cages in their open training spaces all of which is accessible to everyone. I’ve never worked out in a gym that went so far and above just weight lifting and cardio. It’s been fun to adjust my workouts to incorporate lots of tools that I always wished I could work out with, but my most gyms do not have. The only downside is that their cardio machines are pretty old. They do have a fewer motion propelled ones, but the majority have probably been there since the 00’s, none of which are compatible with any smart technology if you train with a tracker. Still even with that downside, I would highly recommend this gym!
This gym is very well equipped, very clean, and the staff are super nice. The membership was a bit easy on my wallet (there was some ongoing promotion) too so I'm glad to have discovered it during my holiday in Lausanne. I really like the location too, definitely highly recommend!
My review is based on my experience using the gym throughout 2020 when I was in Lausanne: 1. Equipment - The gym has 5 sections: a regular bodybuilding area, a cardio section, a classroom area for the aerobic type stuff, a restricted area for paid anaerobic training and finally, the only area I mostly used - a strength playground that has 2 power racks, 2 deadlift platforms, lots of weights and conditioning equipment (basically everything you really need in a gym). If you know what you're doing, you'll find this gym so good that you wouldn't want to change gyms in Lausanne. I didn't. 2. Trainers - I didn't engage one because I do my own programming and am quite experienced. But the trainers are courteous and serious about their jobs. I cannot comment on their efficacy. 3. Locker rooms - Standard, what you would expect in a locker room. You can rent a locker which I never did. Communal showers. 4. Front desk - Some of the most helpful and friendly staff I have seen. Big props to them. Only one man spoke English well however, but if you're French speaking, it shouldn't matter. 5. Price - Although the price may seem a bit steep especially if you're not from Switzerland, rest assured it's the best value for money gym you'll find here. You won't regret taking your membership if you're serious about training. 6. COVID - The gym had closed during COVID for a few months as per the government regulations, but when they re-opened, they had set up the prescribed social distancing rules while training. You needn't worry about hygiene being a problem. I recommend this gym whole-heartedly to everyone living in Lausanne.
This facility looks very good in pictures, but be warned! As a person interested in the functional aspect as well as the strength component of training I thought this facility would provide both good opportunities for training as well as good instructors. Alas, most instructors are seemingly not well educated when it comes to the latest research in physiology and sportsmedicine. They teach their own program with a plethora of exercises that make for slow progress, are unnecessary and even potentially damaging to beginners - since they are not taught properly but instead rushed through all the exercises. To name a few examples: lunge swings using the Vipr, sumo squat with the barbell held in hand similar to T bar rows (but instead facing the barbell). Regular squats with bar in arm creases instead of on the back...just to name a few. This is done instead of well established programs based on linear progression. E.g. Starting Strength, Greyskull Linear progression and Strong Lifts 5x5. The nice area of the gym is off limits to regular gym goers - only for private classes. Despite these not being in session… There are no micro-plates (0.5kg/1lb). There are only a few regular 20 kg barbells in the public gym area - most are 15 kg. Mixed brands of bars and plates results in plates being super wobbly on the bar. Chalk is not allowed, safety first right? Weightlifting platforms can't even be used! There are two weight lifting platforms, but they can't be used since the neighbors will complain if weights are put down too hard. I've been warned twice - none of the times was this with weight that had been above my head but rather dropped from a couple of centimeters off the floor. Even with bumper plates, this was still too loud according to the staff. As a student on a budget, but extremely interested in fitness and healthy living - a good gym was high on my list when moving to Lausanne. These guys charge 390CHF for 3 months - when the limitations of the facility and the unhelpfulness of the staff was revealed I asked for my money back (minus the month I had spent training) but was denied. The only really good thing with this gym is ironically its location - and the after workout shakes they make, they're amazing so they get a star for that at least. **UPDATE** After posting this review, I was allowed to quit the gym - I was given money back appropriate to the amount of time I'd actually used the gym. However, when going to the gym to end my membership the staff was both rude and unaccommodating - as in my membership was canceled effective immediately (a few days prior) and I wasn't even allowed to pay for a one-time training session. There seems to be some discrepancy between how the staff operates and how the management operates. I'm basing this on the fact that the management that reached out to me via email were polite and even recommended other facilities - whilst my experience with the on-location staff was less so.
