Our Take
A large Fitnesspark club 2 minutes from Basel SBB with the city's most extensive wellness area — pool, sauna, steam room, whirlpool — but declining sentiment since 2024 and persistent facility reliability issues.
Consider Fitnesspark Heuwaage only if pool access is essential and no other club meets that need — declining management quality and facility reliability make it hard to recommend without reservations.

Expensive but worth it. Single day pass is 39CHF and gives you access to the gym, pool and spa facilities. Gym is big, plenty of equipment. Pool is really nice, more of a leisure pool with jacuzzi etc rather than one for swimming lengths. The spa (mixed) is a whole other section with multiple saunas, steam room, plunge, showers, foot baths, solarium. Could spend hours in there alone. Friendly reception service who explained everything. You can rent towels for a couple of quid and lockers are locked with a wristband so no padlock needed. Swim shorts for pool is fine but spa is nude.
Being a member for 8 years - in general, this is one of the best equipped fitness and wellness centers country-wide. Centrally located, helpful staff, 3 floors - there could be a bit larger free-weight area, though. Monday to Thursday 5-7pm are usually crowded. Wellness with wow-factor...
Gym Review: Severely Overcrowded and Declining Quality My mates and I have been a member of this gym since around 2016, and at the time, it was a solid place to train. Now, it’s completely overrun. The biggest issue is the severe overcrowding—it’s clearly operating at or beyond capacity, especially during peak hours. Machines are constantly in use, there’s barely any room to move, and getting through a proper workout is an exercise in frustration. It’s simply too crowded to function as a serious gym. The equipment is decent but nothing special, and while it’s serviceable, it doesn’t make up for the overcrowding. The gym isn’t 24 hours, which makes scheduling workouts even more difficult. No towels or drinks are provided, and everything available for purchase is overpriced for what you get. If the overall experience were better, I wouldn’t mind paying more, but with the current issues, it’s just not worth it. The spa area is fine for me personally, but it does tend to attract older men who are very comfortable flaunting themselves. While this is common in Switzerland, it’s something to consider for those who might be uncomfortable with it. The staff seem nice enough, but that doesn’t change the fact that this gym itself has gone down hill. I feel like management is too focused on pushing profits and isn’t paying enough attention to the issues that are making the gym experience worse for its members. It once had a decent reputation, but that’s long outdated. Me and my friends won’t be renewing our memberships, and it’s easily the worst of all the Migros fitness chains right now. The gym needs to either limit new memberships or increase prices to reduce the crowding—otherwise, the problem will only continue to get worse. If you’re looking for a gym where you can actually train without fighting for space, this isn’t it.
I've been a member of Fitnesspark Heuwaage for about six years now, and overall, it's been a pretty good experience. I really like the mix of endurance, strength training, and wellness options. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and the place is clean and modern. Plus, you get a one-on-one training session with a trainer every nine months, which is a nice bonus. The only thing I don't love is the atmosphere—it can feel a bit dull since everyone mostly keeps to themselves. Some people might prefer that, but it's not really my vibe. Considering the price, I'd have given it a 4.5/5. But in the last year or two, I've been less impressed. Every summer, the gym closes for a two-week maintenance period. Last year, they let us use another facility during this time, but this year, that wasn't an option. There's also a shower that's been out of order and boarded up for nearly two years, and it still hasn't been fixed, even after these maintenance periods. On top of that, I've noticed some pretty dirty ceiling panels—it's unclear if it's rust, dirt, or maybe even mold, which is disappointing since it was just after the maintenance work. All things considered, I'd rate my experience over the last 1-2 years at 2.5/5.
I enrolled in a one-year membership at Fitnesspark Basel Heuwaage, but after my first visit, I was left feeling extremely uncomfortable and disappointed. Just a few hours after enrolling, I requested to cancel my membership, but my request was refused. Here are the key issues I encountered: • The gym and infrastructure are outdated, with worn-out equipment. They claim to offer state-of-the-art machines, but the reality falls far short — especially when compared to gyms like Indigo Gym nearby, which uses new TechnoGym equipment. • The showers lack basic essentials like shower gel and shampoo. They argue this is because clients prefer to bring their own, but any quality gym provides these basics. • There was a strong, unpleasant smell in both the spa and changing room areas. • The changing room was overcrowded and uncomfortable to use due to the odour and general atmosphere. What’s most disappointing is the poor customer service. After such a negative first experience, I immediately requested to cancel and was refused — with no understanding or flexibility. To make matters worse, I recently arrived at the gym to find it shut down for 12 days as part of their annual maintenance — during the height of summer. I have never encountered a gym that closes for nearly two weeks at such a time. I contacted the gym again and was advised to use their Baden location instead, which felt genuinely offensive — Baden is far from Basel and not a reasonable alternative in any way. I asked again to cancel my membership due to this closure and was refused once more. As a result, I’ve now enrolled at PureGym for a month — and surprisingly, this low-cost gym is significantly better: the equipment is newer, the space is clean, and it doesn’t have the unpleasant smells or wear and tear of the Migros gym. This gym is overpriced, inflexible, and poorly managed. I strongly advise others to think twice before committing.
